"WELCOME TO OUR STORY"
The Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Cultural Center is a facility that strives to educate as wide an audience as possible about the history, traditions, and cultural heritage of YDSP. We promote a sense of community and cultural exchange between all of the individuals we have the opportunity to interact with. We offer an educational experience through our museum, dance performances, bakers, academic discussions, artistic demonstrations, and lectures. We offer a focus on our Pueblo's authenticity and it's preservation through these components.
MEET OUR POTTERS
All of our pottery goods are created at the Cultural Center. We are involved in every step of the production process, starting by mixing the clay, then it is poured into molds, fired, cleaned and painted, all by hand. The majority of our items are made with industrial clays that come in both red and white variants.
The art on our pottery is painted by our Elders from the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo community. Tomas Silvas, Johnny Hisa and Frank Gomez.
Mr. Gomez also handles a variety of the production aspects of the pottery making for the department such as clay mixing, mold making, firing and cleaning. They are all hand painted with different Native American designs. Every pottery has its own unique art.
